The New Kinect For Windows Sensor To Be Available In 2014

Xbox One to be available later this year, new generation Kinect for Windows sensor is coming next year.

While announcing Xbox One, Microsoft unveiled the next generation Kinect sensor demonstrating new capabilities. Though not much information was shared at the time of launch, the Kinect for Windows blog has now shared some more details about the new Kinect sensor. In the blog post, Microsoft has announced that the new Kinect for Windows sensor will be available from 2014, while a Kinect sensor will be shipped with every Xbox One.

The blog post also shares some key capabilities of the next generation Kinect sensor. These includes a HD colour camera and a new noise isolating multi-microphone array. The new sensor incorporates Time-of-Flight technology which recognises minute details in high precision, giving a greater depth of information received. The new sensor will have a larger field of view and a better skeletal tracking mechanism which would even track movements of wrist and thumb. The new tracking system would be capable of recognising up to six skeletons at a time.

The new IR sensor in the Kinect is designed to work in any lighting condition giving it better capabilities to recognise gestures. Microsoft plans to demonstrate more of these capabilities for developers and designers during BUILD 2013, which is scheduled in June.
