Google Play Games Service Unveiled, To Rival Apple iOS Game Center
New gaming center is expected to bring enhancements such as leaderboards, synchronized game saving ability, and more; unveiled at Google I/O.
Update: Google Play Games has been officially unveiled at Google's ongoing I/O Conference. The service brings with real-time multiplayer and leaderboards features.
Earlier on 13th May: Rumour says Google may showcase a new and exclusive Android gaming center at its I/O conference next week. This new gaming platform is expected to be in line with Apple's iOS game center and Microsoft's Xbox Live. An Android Police report states that this new service is likely be termed Google Play Games, and will support Google+. The website mentions various gaming features/aspects such as achievements, leaderboards, in-game chatting feature, and multiplayer functionality. Apart from sharing game scores via Google+, this social integration is also expected to make way for a new feature called Synchronized Game Saving to keep track their gaming activities, which users would find in their respective account settings parameters.
Android Police further states that Google's exclusive gaming center would bring with it something called Matchmarking that provides gamers the opportunity to manually select other players, apart from auto-selection of players. With Matchmarking, gamers can enter into "Matchmarking rooms", which looks similar to chat rooms, but to play against each other. Even a "Games Invitation List" is likely be integrated into the Matchmarking rooms.
With some more days to go for Google's I/O conference, more features could surface. For now though, we expect something big with respect to gaming, as Google recently hired Noah Falstein as its chief game designer.
