Instagram Now Lets You Tag Your Friends
However, it doesn't convert old @mentions into image tags.
Borrowing yet another feature from Facebook, which now owns Instagram, users can now tag their friends on their Instagram clicks. While originally, you could tag friends in comments and descriptions using @mentions, now you can tag them on the pictures itself. On its official blog, Instagram further adds that tagged pictures will appear under the 'Photos of You' section, and again similar to FB, you can control what is visible on your timeline and what isn't. If you don't already have the Instagram app on your Android or iOS devices, you can download version 3.5 from on Apple's App Store or Google Play.
That being said, a Mashable report clarifies that earlier mentions will not be converted into image tags; and user will have to do that manually. Until 16th May though, this section will be visible only to you, so you can tweak its settings to suit your needs. After this date though, the section will be visible to others too.
