The company has decided to reward the person who downloads the 50 billionth app with a $10,000 (approx Rs 5,38,000) iTunes gift card. And that is not all, the next 50 people will stand to win iTunes gift cards worth $500 (Rs 27,000) each. Apple seems to be in a very generous mood: The entire exercise will cost the Cupertino-based company a total of $35,000 (Rs 18,82,000).

In case you are wondering, the company had earlier given away gift cards worth $10,000 for 1 billion downloads (in April 2009), 10 billion (in January 2011), and 25 billion in March last year. It gave away similar gifts for its 10 billionth iTunes song download. In case you are thinking about trying your luck, you can download free apps without spending a dime.
