Google Play Store 4.0 Upgrade Coming For Froyo And Newer Android OSes
Google Play over the past year began offering more services than just apps, blog confirms upgrade will roll out over the next few weeks.
Google has confirmed a new design for its hugely popular Google Play Store used on Android phones and tablets. The new design will be rolling out to users of Android 2.2 Froyo and newer versions, in the coming weeks. Instead of the scattered view at present, Google Play Store 4.0 will offer users "similarly grouped" content across various categories/genres. Thus apps, songs and movie content of a particular genre, will be uniformly grouped.
Images now have more significance with a focus on bigger images, and new recommendations appear as one scrolls through the page. Google says with these "new recommendations", there is scope to view newer content and explore more in the new version of its Play Store. Along with these enhancements, Google's blog post also says the process for purchasing content from Google Play has been made simpler, along with providing movie rentals. Google Checkout has also been tweaked to sync with Android mobile devices.
Google launched the Play Store last year after it combined its Android market, eBookstore and Google Music, and was attributed a whopping growth rate of 311% in 2012. However, the same news report says Apple's iOS app store had four times the growth rate of Google Play; during the last year.
