Apple Releases iOS Update To Plug Security Loophole
Also fixes issues related to its maps app for Japan.
Apple has released the latest iOS 6.1.3 update for iDevices, incorporating a patch to plug a potentially major security loophole, according to Mashable. The previous versions of iOS 6.1 and above, supposedly allowed anyone to bypass the passcode screen on a device using certain swipe patterns and key presses. The hacker could then disable the Home button to access, export, or call all contacts and voicemails.
While Apple was aware of this issue, it hadn't addressed it in the previous iOS 6.1.2 update, which took care of a battery draining bug in the calendar app that caused an iDevice to constantly sync with Microsoft Exchange servers. The complete details of the 6.1.3 update have not been publicly announced yet. However, it is known that it also fixes certain issues related to Apple Maps for Japan, such as better toll-road mapping, improved local language pronunciations, turn-by-turn navigation, and new 3D buildings. We hope that the company also updates its maps app for other countries soon. It is very likely that Apple has also taken care to plug exploits that could be used to jailbreak iDevices, however this will only come to light after users report about it.
