Twitter Introduces Line Breaks, Windows 8 App
The official Twitter App for Windows 8 is a first for for the micro-blogging site, although the line breaks feature is drawing mixed reviews.
Twitter recently drew flak from users over its new line-breaks feature, whereby users could now insert a line-break within a tweet. Overpowering the probable positives, people felt line breaks would be abused to spam their timeline - which may lead to a rollback by Twitter.
The micro-blogging site also brought out its "Modern UI" app, designed to run on Microsoft's Windows 8 and RT platforms. Twitter for Windows 8 can now officially be downloaded from the Windows store.
Twitter says in a blog post, "We are releasing Twitter for Windows 8, a new app that makes it easier than ever to share and discover content on Windows 8 devices."
Twitter's Windows 8 app supports more than 20 languages in addition to English, but no Indian languages. The application, apart from the conventional Home, Connect, Discover and Me tabs, brings various new enhancements such as:
Snap view: Users can adjust the size of the Twitter app to one-third, two-thirds or even full screen. Snap View can also be used to simultaneously operate twitter whilst watching a video or even while browsing websites.
Share charm, Search charm: These enhancements lets users to tweet and share content from any app. This can be achieved by just Swiping from the right edge in Windows 8 and by selecting Share/Search charm to share/search all favorite content.
Live Tiles and notifications: Lets users keep abreast with what's happening on Twitter; with just a single click/swipe in Windows 8 and RT platforms.
Photos: The feature ensures a landscape view to individual photos. In addition to this, users can swipe horizontally to view multiple photos. A full screen view of any photo can be enabled with just a simple tap on the screen. Along with this, photo gallery of other users can also be viewed.
Twitter's app for Windows makes it a first for the micro-blogging site as it had never made its way to Windows platforms earlier as a native app. However, the micro-blogging site's app has already found its footing on various mobile platforms such as Android, iOS, and Blackberry.
