Upcoming ZTE Smartphone To Have Intel Atom Z2580 Processor

The newer x86 processor offers 2 GHz clock speed, as opposed to the ZTE Grand X IN which had a 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom Z2460 processor.

Intel has once again collaborated with ZTE, this time to incorporate its Atom Z2580 processor in future ZTE smartphones. Intel had earlier collaborated with lesser known manufacturer, Lava to produce various smartphones, notably the Xolo X900 (single core, hyper-threaded x86 processor) smartphone.

ZTE has stated in a press release that it will incorporate into its phones, the Intel Atom Z2580 processor that was unveiled at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress. There is no mention of a proposed launch date or model number.

The Intel Atom Z2580 offers two cores and clock speed of 2 GHz, thus making it faster than the previous generation Intel Atom Z2460 1.6 GHz (which was in ZTE's Grand X IN). The Z2580 uses Intel's hyper-threading technology, which means that dual-core combined with hyper-threading technology allows for more parallel multi-tasking.

ZTE already has a relationship with service providers, such as MTS In India (the MTS ZTE S1000 "basic phone" is priced at Rs 599). That apparently, is their primary means of reaching the consumer - through mobile service operators, or the B2B2C model as ZTE's CEO said (as against Samsung's model of advertising that appeals directly to the consumer).

Meanwhile, ZTE is slated to bring out the first smartphone running on the open source Mozilla Firefox operating system.
