MWC 2013: Samsung HomeSync Unveiled

This home entertainment hub supports video playback from up to 8 Samsung Galaxy devices.

After unveiling the Galaxy Note 8 at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, consumer electronics major Samsung has launched the HomeSync, an interesting "mobile" product at the MWC. It is a home hub that allows you to play media files from up to 8 devices and view the output on a TV.

Samsung's HomeSync provides for photo and video viewing, at a resolution of 1080p. Users can play content directly from their Samsung Galaxy devices through the HomeSync. Besides Wireless Control modes, the Jelly Bean media player app and access to Play Store are also offered.

How does the Samsung HomeSync differentiate itself from other existing Android-based media players? The company says this device offers features to sync with Samsung Galaxy phones and enables new interaction mechanisms (although further details on this are scarce).

In a press release, Samsung lists the technical specifications of the HomeSync as follows:

  • 1.7 Ghz dual-core CPU
  • Android Jelly Bean platform
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB internal storage (flash memory)
  • 1 TB hard disk drive
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wireless LAN, Optical Audio, HDMI 1.4 connectivity
  • integrated Android TV (allows for uploading/downloading from multiple devices and also enables instant share)

Price tag of the device is not known yet, although availability is slated for April 2013 and beyond.
