Tweets With Links Reduced to 118 Characters

New t.co link wrapper has resulted in the change; https URLs reduced to 117 characters.

If you tweet links using your Twitter account, then your tweets will have to get crisper by 2 characters. That's because the total characters in tweets that contain a URL has been reduced to 118 characters (117 for https).

This has been in the works for quite a while now: Twitter announced in December last year about its code changes in its t.co link wrapper. Since the link wrap now takes away 22 characters instead of 20, the balance of 140 is what your tweets consist of (for https it has gone up from 21 to 23 characters).

The changes have already been implemented for applications that tweet URLs, so expect that you’ll have to keep your tweets shorter too. Does this affect the way you use the service?
