Countdown Timer on Ubuntu's Website Suggests a Tablet Launch
After the mobile operating system, it's time for Tablet.
At the start of the year, Canonical announced Ubuntu Phone Operating System for smartphones and during CES 2013, Mark Shuttleworth himself gave a demo of the new OS. Now Ubuntu.com homepage is again sporting a countdown clock with a message "Tick, tock, tablet time!". This urges us to believe that we are just hours away from the reveal of a new OS meant for tablets.
We can expect that this new version of OS for tablets will be the modified user interface of the mobile operating system already announced. The tablet OS might have similar features like using thumb gestures for switching between apps and navigating between screens as seen in the Ubuntu Phone OS. And talking about Ubuntu Phone OS, Canonical has announced the release of source codes to developers as a Touch Developer Preview on February 21, 2013 for Samsung Galaxy Nexus and LG Nexus 4. The Canonical team will also be present at MWC 2013 and attendees can have their devices flashed for using the new Ubuntu Phone OS ahead of its final launch later this year.
