Google Android 4.2.2 Appears For Nexus Devices
Update fixes Bluetooth audio issues and adds details to app download progress.
Nexus smartphones and tablets users have some good news as Google has just released Android 4.2.2 for the devices. Since the Nexus devices are the dearest to Google, they are usually the first to receive the latest updates such as this one. This is the first update since the late November release of Android 4.2.1. Being a minor version update, it fixes some minor issues. It has been seen to be available for some GALAXY Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices, but it is yet to be confirmed if it is available for the recently launched Nexus 4.
One of the improvements that have been incorporated in 4.2.2 is that Bluetooth streaming now works better than before. A user has reported that this is still not perfect as his GALAXY Nexus still got disconnected from his car's Bluetooth speaker when he switched it from Wi-Fi to 3G data connection. Yet another change is the additional details available during apps download, such as percentage completed and estimated time for completion, which are both welcome additions. Quick Settings panel of Android 4.2 has also been overhauled so that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can be toggled on and off by long-pressing their respective icons. Earlier, pressing these icons would take you to their respective settings pages. Devices supporting wireless charging now have a notification sound, while the notification sound for low battery has been changed. We'll keep you posted as more details emerge.
As is usually the case, these updates are rolled out in phases so if your device doesn't indicate the presence of an update yet, sit tight, you will eventually get it. In case you can't wait and are ready for some experimentation, you can download the firmware update files dumped by a user, which can be used to update the device over Wi-Fi from here: GALAXY Nexus, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. These are signed, so the device need not be rooted to use them. Remember, these are the US versions of the update and it goes without saying that you can use these only at your own risk or wait for an official regional update.
