CES 2013: NVIDIA Announces Handheld Gaming Console Project Shield

Nintendo and Sony better watch out, as NVIDIA is all set to enter the handheld gaming arena. Named as Project SHIELD, the upcoming console which has been unveiled at CES 2013 is based on the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) platform with Google Play support. At the heart of the device is NVIDIA's newly announced Tegra 4 chipset, which the company boasts to be the fastest mobile processor in the world. The console will sport a 5" multitouch screen with pixel dimensions of 1280x720 attached to a full-sized gaming controller (much like the Xbox 360's remote). Other noteworthy features of the gadget include an HDMI port, Wi-Fi connectivity, 3.5 mm jack, twin speakers, and a microSD card slot.

Should you get bored of thousands of games available in Google's repository; you can also stream and play Steam games installed on your desktop which is powered by a GeForce GTX 650 GPU or higher. The Project SHIELD is still in the development phase, and is expected to launch by the end of this year.
