Angry Birds Scores 500 Million Downloads
Gamers have collectively spent about 2 lakh years on the games.
With the exception of calculators, Angry Birds has been ported to virtually every gadget sporting a screen. Rovio's wildly popular mobile game has now amassed 500 million downloads, according to a blog post by the Finnish mobile game developer. This is no surprise considering the game is available on all major consoles, PC, and smartphones. With the recent announcement of a port to the Series 40 based Nokia Asha 300 and 303 feature phones, the numbers are bound to swell even further.
Rovio has revealed statistics on the number of hours, nay, years of productivity flushed down the toilet in the pursuit of avian revenge. The numbers point to about 200,000 years of collective playtime, accrued via a whopping 300 million minutes of daily playtime. Gamers across platforms have played through more than 266 billion levels. That's 400 billion birds launched into action, and over 44 billion Stars collected in the process. These figures may be pointless, but the sheer volume of it all is nonetheless mind-warping.
The march of the Angry Birds has no respite as Rovio will shortly open a retail shop dedicated solely to the game's merchandise. This move comes after 10 million toys already lapped up by fans of the franchise. The pig-slaughtering madness has also spilled over to books, animated features, and Rovio's burgeoning YouTube channel, which has garnered over 200 million views according to the company.
