Airtel Starts Emergency Alert Service; Users Can Send Location Details To 10 People At Once

Costs Rs 30 for 30 days; will be active even if you're out of balance on a pre-paid account.

Telecom company Bharti Airtel has launched a paid 24x7 Emergency Alert Service for its subscribers. This emergency service lets you send out a text alert (or make a call) to 10 pre-set numbers — all at the same time. This is along the lines of the Fight Back app.

To activate the service, you dial 55100 from your Airtel number, after which the IVR system guides you through the process. To set up your emergency contact numbers, SMS START <MobileNumber1>, <MobileNumber2>, <MobileNumber3>... (up to 10 numbers) to 55100. Keywords such as SAFE or HELP to 55100 will immediately inform your emergency contacts of your location, and that you are in trouble.

Priced at Rs 30 for 30 days, the service requires your phone to be connected to a network, of course. But running out of balance on a pre-paid number won't be an issue — the service will always be available.

Do you see yourself subscribing to such a service? Let us know in the comments.
