Tablet manufacturers seem to be shifting gears from 7" to 8" tablets. Wishtel's IRA Icon HD, which runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), has an 8" multi-touch capacitive TFT LCD screen. The tablet is powered by a 1.2 GHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM. In addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it supports data connectivity and voice (and video) calling via a 3G GSM SIM slot. The SIM is not locked to a particular provider, so you have the freedom of choice. Internal storage is 8 GB, which you can increase by up to 32 GB via microSD. The 0.3 mp front camera is useful for video calls and video chat, and there's also a 2 mp snapper at the back. The 6000 mAh battery has a claimed backup of up to 6 hours. If you look closely at the specifications, you will notice that the IRA Icon HD only has the 8" 1024x768 screen and 3G SIM slot going in its favour. Unfortunately, most people tend to be overly impressed by big screens. It makes better sense to invest in the Swipe Velocity Tab. The latter has an 8" IPS screen with similar pixel dimensions, but the specs are better — including a 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Plus, it costs Rs 1500 less, because it does not feature a 3G SIM slot. What do you think?
