Social networking is high on every netizen's to-do list, despite the perils. That has motivated Mozilla to bring out Firefox 17, which has deep Facebook integration for its desktop browser. With its open social APIs, you get support for Facebook Messenger. To enable the function, log in to your Facebook account after installing the browser, and head over to www.facebook.com/about/messenger-for-firefox — then hit Turn On. The sidebar appears at the right of the browser window.

Other interesting features include click-to-play blocklisting, which checks for outdated or vulnerable plug-ins. However, Firefox is no longer supported on Mac OS X 10.5.

For Android devices, Mozilla has eased a few restrictions. The browser now works on ARMv6 chipsets with a minimum of an 800 MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. The mobile browser will support Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and Android 4.1 (Jellybean) hardware, while offering software decoder support for H.264 video.
