Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" Button Gets Emotional

Provides search results according to eight different "feelings", with one chosen at random.

 

Most of you would have hardly ever used Google's I'm Feeling Lucky button — perhaps just once or twice, when you were really bored and wanted to try it for kicks. Its function, for those not in the know, is to immediately take you to the top search result instead of displaying the list of websites that match your term. However, the introduction of the Google Instant feature that predicts your search query and displays results as you type has made the button obsolete. Not to mention the fact that most people simply use their browser's search box to go directly to the results. Therefore, after almost 15 years of near-uselessness, this aspect of the spartan homepage has gone for a makeover. Ever so quietly, Google has added eight new "emotions" or functions to this button.

Now, when you hover your mouse over the button, it will roll like a slot machine and come up with a random "feeling", as in I'm Feeling... The possibilities are Stellar, Hungry, Trendy, Wonderful, Playful, Artistic, Puzzled, and Doodley. What do they do? Well, Stellar takes you to outer space with the help of Google Images. If you're Hungry, clicking the button lists out nearby restaurants (provided you've turned on the Location feature). If you feel Wonderful, you'll be sent to a random World Wonders Project page — for example, a first-person view of the South Pole. Getting Playful will bring you to a random, interactive Doodle. Artistic takes you to the Art Project website, while Puzzled will bring up the a Google a Day challenge. Finally, if you're feeling Doodley, you'll be sent to a random doodle.
