Elon Musk developing microchips for your brain that save and replay memories

Musk’s company Neuralink is working on special brain-microchips that let you record and playback your memories. Human trials will begin soon.

If this sounds familiar to you, it’s because it’s basically the plot of a Black Mirror episode from the early 2010s. The episode is titled ‘The Entire History of You’ and comes with a dystopian twist.

Let’s hope such a dark and sinister twist does not play out in real life

“In the future, you'll be able to save and replay memories.” Musk said in a Neuralink presentation. “You could potentially download them into a new body or into a robot body.”

This brain-microchip can also help with hearing loss, blindness, and paralysis. A person with one or more of these disabilities could control their phone with their brain.

In fact, monkeys have already used Neuralink’s technology to play videogames (like Ping-Pong) with their brains. That’s right, monkeys are actually playing games without touching any hardware.

“I think we have a chance with Neuralink to restore full-body functionality to someone who has a spinal cord injury.” Musk said. “Neuralink's working well in monkeys, and we're actually doing just a lot of testing and just confirming that it's very safe and reliable and the Neuralink device can be removed safely.”

Neuralink is looking for Clinical Trial Director to test this technology on human beings.

“As the clinical trial director, you’ll work closely with some of the most innovative doctors and top engineers, as well as working with Neuralink’s first clinical trial participants.” Reads the advert for the role. “You will lead and help build the team responsible for enabling Neuralink’s clinical research activities and developing the regulatory interactions that come with a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.”
