Netflix cuts subscription costs in India
Netflix plans are now cheaper in India in order to incentivize more people to sign up.
In the face of increasing competition from Disney Plus Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, SinyLIV and many others, Netflix is slashing costs to remain competitive.
This is the first time Netflix has lowered the cost of its plans in India and the new pricing comes into effect starting today.
Streaming services became the only form of entertainment duringlockdowns caused by the pandemic, and today it’s estimated that very soon India will have over 200 million subscribers to streaming services, and about 1 in 4 Internet subscribers will watch entertainment and sports online.
Old Prices – Rs 199 for Mobile, Rs 499 Basic, Rs 649 Standard, Rs 799 Premium
New Prices – Rs 149 for Mobile, Rs 199 Basic, Rs 499 Standard, Rs 649 Premium
The price change will come into effect from the next billing cycle for members.
Netflix will also upgrade users to the plan that is one level higher than their current plan, at the same monthly price as their old plan.
The new pricing will come into effect from December 14 and if you’ve already paid the subscription charge this month, the new rates will take effect on your next billing cycle.
The Mobile-only plan is for people who watch content on the go and watch content on smaller screens like mobile or tablets. The plan allows you to stream on one screen at a time in 480p resolution.
The Basic plan is exactly the same as the Mobile-only plan but lets you log into more devices, like a TV and computer as well.
The Standard plan offers content in 1080p, lets you log in to any device, and Yyu can stream content on two devices at the same time.
The Premium plan offers content in the highest resolution available – 4K+HDR, lets you log into any device, and you can stream content on up to four devices at once.
