Why 5G in India will be delayed
5G in India will be delayed because of a lack of spectrum and other technical shortcomings.
Telecom providers in India began testing 5G equipment earlier this year but it will probably be a long time before people who purchased 5G devices can actually use 5G.
Why? Because the federal government and service providers are behind with spectrum auctions and could be further delayed to early 2022.
Telecom providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea are currently prioritizing financial and technical readiness, all three are still conducting tests and trials on 5G implementation. But the government itself needs to make the necessary spectrum available.
Looks like this will certainly mess with the government's ambitious plan of announcing commercial 5G to commemorate India's 75th anniversary of her Independence on August 15 in 2022.
A big chunk of spectrum is owned by the country's space and defense organizations, so discussions are underway to share some of that spectrum with telecom providers.
