Rumour: Images Of Assembled iPhone 5 Spotted
First seen on Chinese website; appears to have a bigger body than older models.
UPDATE (14-Jun-2012): This image has been revealed to be a fake, as can be seen from this link. Effectively, it renders this entire story rather pointless. Apologies to our readers for the goof-up, and thanks to our reader Sharbeen for pointing it out first.
One can never have enough of iPhone leaks, and here's one more. This time it's a fully assembled phone believed to be the iPhone 5. The device sports the same back panel that was demonstrated last week on video. It seems, the handset is clearly larger than its purported predecessor. The image shows a device with a metal unibody construction that's believed to replace the current iPhone's glass body. It's still far from being an official confirmation, as we've seen enough leaks in the past. However, this comes on the heels of last week's leak, which is the closest plausible one we've seen so far. An image shows the change in the speaker grille, in addition to a smaller dock connector.
The alleged new iPhone was briefly shown off in a total of four images, though we would have liked more. Apparently, the phone in the leaked images seems to be running off American network carrier AT&T, which raises a fair amount of suspicion. The images were posted by a Chinese website (Translated) that's gracious enough to acknowledge the unconfirmed authenticity of the images. Many aspects of the spy snaps are new to us, including the LED flash on the back of the phone, which appears to have a group of tiny LEDs.
It is hard to jump to conclusions until Apple officially makes an announcement. Given how strict Apple about security, it is unlikely that a prototype would have slipped out. However, if it did, I am genuinely concerned for the poor workers at Foxconn.
