IIT Engineer Arrested For Sending Threat Email To PM

Attempted to implicate neighbour in a false case, traced through cybercafé's usage log.

An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) engineer, Anurag Kashyap (not to be confused with the famed director), has been arrested for sending threatening emails to PM Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P. Chidambaram, reports IANS.

The Hazaribagh district Police (Jharkhand) said, "Anurag has been arrested for sending a threat mail, he send [sic] the mail by creating an account in name of his neighbour Manish Sharma". The officials added that he did so to implicate his neighbour in a false case.

Police officials revealed that the email was sent to the Delhi Police Commissioner on 2nd June, in the name of a certain Baidaihi Sharma. Living in Aryana colony of Hazaribagh, the accused said that his brother was the dead CCL employee, Ramesh Sharma. The email further threatened the Prime Minister and Home Minister, if Ramesh's retirement benefits were not handed over to his family members.

On questioning the Sharmas, the police realised that no one in the family has worked with the CCL. They then arrested cyber cafe owner Adib Hasan on 7th June, which led them to Kashyap, who is an IIT Kharagpur alumni.

It is funny to see what how people use the internet for spite, or hacking into other's social networking profiles just for the heck of it.
