Meet The Galaxy Note 8: A Successor To Last Year's 'Explosive' Phablet

Samsung has announced the next big thing in its smartphone line-up. Yes, the Galaxy Note 8 is finally official. Due to the countless leaks, there are hardly any surprises, but the phone is exciting nonetheless.
 
The Galaxy Note 8 is water and dust resistant. It comes with an Infinity Display (fancy word for bezel-less screen). The 6.3-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2960 x 1440. You get impressive pixel density of 521 ppi. From the performance point of view, the phone will push Full HD resolution on default settings.

 
Another high point is Samsung's first dual-lens camera setup on a smartphone. The 12-megapixel module comes with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). This is ideal for low-light shots and stabilised video recording. The secondary lens is a telephoto type, which enables 2X optical zoom. Moreover, you can control the depth of field by adjusting the bokeh effect.
 
Of course, the Note 8 comes with S-pen stylus. As we all know, this digital pen can be used for taking notes or make annotations on the go.


 
The Note 8 is powered by Samsung's own Exynos 8895 chipset. In the US though, the phone will be based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset. The phone has 6 GB RAM, and will be available in 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB internal storage option. You can expand the storage further via a microSD card slot. It is a hybrid slot, so you can either use it for a secondary SIM or storage expansion.

The Note 8 has an important task of winning back the consumer trust following last year's Note 7 fiasco. If you were living under a rock, the Note 7 was affected by a critical battery flaw that cause fire in many handsets. After sending many owners in a hostpital, the Note 7 was recalled and discontinued over safety issues. Let us hope that Samsung has thouroughly tested the new phone for such nasty surprises.

 
The Galaxy Note 8 will be available starting in mid-September in the US. The phone is priced at $930. While the company hasn't shed the light on its India pricing, according to the unofficial sources, the Galaxy Note 8 to cost around Rs 64,000.
