Kaspersky Lab Rolls Out New Technology To Protect You From Audio Spying
The new method counteracts unauthorised access to microphone data on Windows devices.
Kaspersky Lab has recently announced its new patented technology which is touted to protect you from audio surveillance, according to a recent post published on BGR.
The company has unveiled this new technology that prevents someone from gaining access to microphone data on Windows devices, as an answer to a raising concern about our privacy online.
The report further mentions that the company has included this new technology in its home solutions — Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security.
In an official blog post, Kaspersky Lab explains — To control access to consumer audio data, it is necessary to monitor all requests to the microphone in the operating system and block those where access is unauthorized or conducted by an untrusted program.

The company further adds, “If consumers simply switch the microphone off or cover it with tape, it may still be possible for intruders to record sounds from around the device via loudspeakers or other methods. There is currently no default protection from unauthorized access to user audio data in the Windows OS.
Also, according to the blog post, Kaspersky Lab’s new patented technology filters internal commands sent to, or received by, the Windows Audio service and indicates the creation of each new audio stream by any application.
This new technology is also said to use the company’s very own Application Control feature which categorizes all programs as ‘trusted’, ‘low/high restricted’ or ‘untrusted’, depending on their reputation, content, and manufacturer. It is further claimed that if the feature recognizes that an “untrusted” or “low/high restricted” program is trying to access the microphone, the request is immediately blocked.
