Mozilla Firefox Finally Gets Multiple Processes Update

The update allows you to customise the number of processes you would want to use depending on your RAM.

Mozilla has recently announced a new version of its Internet browser ‘Firefox’ following a recent announcement made by Apple regarding the capabilities of the latest version of its browser ‘Safari’.

Mozilla has announced that the new version of Firefox comes with multiple separate computing processor which basically avoids eating up of a lot of your computer’s processing power because of some rogue website.

According to a recent post published on PCMag, these multiple processes feature to handle demanding websites is nothing new as already other browsers like Chrome and Safari have implemented this. However, it is explained in the post that Mozilla’s delay, according to Firefox Head of Product, Ryan Pollock, was due to ensuring compatibility for browser add-ons.

According to the PCMag post, Ryan has written on a Medium post, “While Mozilla's engineers knew that this new multi-process approach was possible, adapting Firefox to run in multiple processes would require breaking Firefox Add-Ons that depended on a single-process architecture.” He also added that Mozilla was reluctant to do this because customising Firefox through Add-Ons has always been very popular.

However, with the delay in timeline, Mozilla has been claiming that the recent update has made Firefox use less memory than Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome.
