The Good Old 17 Inch MacBook Pro Will Soon Be Obsolete

According to the Cupertino giant, any device discontinued for more than 7 years is obsolete.

 

Apple is known to end support to old devices announcing them as obsolete as and when new devices take their place. Recently we saw a similar announcement by the Cupertino giant about the polycarbonate MacBook and the mid-2009 MacBook Pro models. Now, the legacy seems to continue.

According to a recent post published on AppleInsider, the MacBook maker will be making the Mid-2011 MacBook Air and Late-2011 MacBook Pro models obsolete in almost all parts of the world, except California and Turkey. This, according to AppleInsider, is based on an internal document, the list, and was first published by 9to5mac.

To recall, the original 17-inch notebook by Apple, known as, the PowerBook G4 17 Inch, came with a 1 GHz G4 Processor with 167 MHz system bus, 512 MB RAM, and a 60 GB hard disk. However, the last PowerBook i.e., the Late-2011 model featured either 2.5 GHz or 2.7 GHz i7 processor, 4 GB RAM, and a 750 GB hard drive, retailing for around $2,749 at the time of its launch.

According to the internal document, "Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products."
