New Telecom Policy Will Allow Free Mobile Roaming
Subscribers will also be allowed to retain their mobile numbers, even after moving to another circle.
The Union Cabinet has approved a decision to abolish roaming charges on mobile subscriptions across the country. Additionally, users will be able to retain their mobile numbers even after moving to another circle. The cabinet had met to decide upon the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 today, when these decisions were made. Currently, subscribers have to pay significant roaming charges for calls as well as SMSes, and are also required to change their mobile number if they move house to another circle. These decisions will make it easier for users to brace for the impact of the impending hike in mobile tariff, as had been reported earlier. It's interesting to note that India currently has one of the lowest mobile tariffs in the world, but anything that is cheaper will always be welcome.
