Apple Patents An Accessory To Turn iPhones Into MacBooks

The accessory comes with a slot near the keyboard and trackpad where you can actually insert an iPhone.

It looks like Apple is working on a unique device that probably has the capability to actually turn your iPhone into a MacBook.

According to a recent report published on US Patent and Trademark Office, Apple has recently submitted a patent application for an “Electronic accessory device”, which is reported to be containing a traditional laptop hardware, though it wouldn’t be useful without a host like an iPhone or iPad.

So, in exact words, the Abstract as published on the website goes like this - The present application describes various embodiments of systems and methods for providing internal components for portable computing devices having a thin profile. More particularly, the present application describes an electronic accessory device available to extend and expand usefulness of a portable computing device. Here’s the link to the filed patent.

As you can see in the link, the application filed by Apple on September 20, 2016 claims that the accessory is capable of providing an output to a user, while the electronic host device is positioned within the recess in the housing, being coupled to the control interface.

Along with this, the patent application also mentions that the electronic accessory device would be inoperable without the electronic host device coupled to the control interface.

While this patent definitely pops up many use cases and possibilities for the Cupertino giant, we may still look at this with a pinch of salt, as we do not know by when would this actually arrive in the market.
