CES 2017: Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 835 SoC
The new processor is said to be 35 % smaller in size and consumes 25 % less power than the previous SoC.
All the wait is over. Qualcomm has announced its much awaited processor, the Snapdragon 835, which is the successor of Snapdragon 820, at CES 2017. Speaking about the new processor, this is said to be the first processor by Qualcomm that is produced commercially, using the 10nm FinFET process, explains a report published on GSMArena.
The report also adds that the Snapdragon 835 processor has been built with VR in mind, and interestingly, the company touts about the ability of this new chipset to run mobile devices with full Windows 10 support.
Also, the latest processor is around 35 per cent smaller in size, thus resulting in thinner phones with larger batteries. It is also being said that the Snapdragon 835 would be consuming 25 per cent less power, thus improving the battery life.
Technically speaking, the new Snapdragon 835 comes with Kryo CPU architecture that was earlier seen in the Snapdragon 82X, and to ensure high-performing graphics, the SoC comes with Adreno 540 GPU. This new GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan’s API, and DirectX 12, thus making sure that users get a mind boggling result while playing mobile games and using VR/AR.
Having said this, the new processor is claimed to improve Image processing, and enable smooth playback of videos at 4K resolution. The Snapdragon 835 also officially supports Google’s Daydream VR platform.
