Is Apple Really Coming Up With A Dual SIM iPhone?

A couple of recent patent filings of Apple shows the dual SIM card technology, as being invented by Li Su at Apple.

In this era when dual SIM handsets are dominating the smartphone industry, it has been only Apple among the major players to come up with single SIM iPhones. Well, we have never seen a dual SIM iPhone, right? However, we may soon see one.

It looks like the Cupertino giant is finally considering to include dual SIM slots on its iPhones, according to a couple of patent filings that we have come across thus far.

It seems that a document was filed with China’s State Intellectual Property Office describing the dual SIM card feature in iPhones, according to Gadgets 360’s recent post that quotes a report by Forbes.

According to the report, Apple submitted the application in March 2016 and published in September 2016. The inventor’s name is being claimed as Li Su, who is also a Principal Architect for cellular software at Apple, adds Gadgets 360.

Not just in China, but also Apple was awarded a patent for dual SIM card technology in the US earlier this week, reports Forbes.

For Apple, India is one of the prominent markets now, but in most markets outside India and China, i.e., places like US and Europe, dual SIM feature do not make much sense. Considering this in mind, we are still not sure whether Apple will actually produce iPhone with dual SIM feature or is it just one among those hundreds of patents the company files every now and then.
