The new update brings SOS/Panic Button to your iPhones, iPods, and iPads according to Indian government’s mandate.

Apple has recently rolled out iOS 10.2 update for iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and the best part of this new update is, it brings an india specific feature. The new iOS 10.2 comes with a new SOS feature or panic button, which is now, mandatory according to the Indian government.

The iOS 10.2 comes with other improvements as well. Users get 100 new emojis, new effects while using iMessage, a whole new TV app, and a couple of improvised features in the Camera app.

Speaking about the India-specific feature, users can find the SOS option under General tab in the Settings menu. Users can also personalise the settings used for SOS. Accordingly, users can choose how many times will they have to press the power button to actually activate the Emergency SOS call.

Adding further, by pressing the Power button a couple of times, an emergency call is placed to 112, which has been already announced as the new single emergency number adopted by the Indian Government. This emergency phone number will be active starting Jan 1, 2017.

After installing iOS 10.2, you can see that the phone number 112 is automatically saved as Distress Number in Contacts. However, while 112 is the standard, users can also add more numbers to which an SOS call can be placed during an emergency.
