Fake Apple Chargers Bring Fatal Risks: Report
Out of 400 fake Apple chargers, only 3 have been able to pass basic safety tests.
Apple is known for its quality products - be it smartphone, laptop, PC, or tablet. But, the company’s accessories do not come with a friendly price tag, thus making it difficult for many people to purchase original accessories for their Apple devices. As a result, many consumers go for fake accessories. A charger is one such commonly available fake accessory for Apple devices.
In fact, many e-commerce websites like Amazon are flooded with fake Apple chargers. And now, a recent study shows that in among 400 fake Apple chargers that were purchased online, only 3 have been able to pass basic safety tests, according to a recent report published in BBC.
According to the same report, investigators have recently warned users to be careful while purchasing a fake charger as they face fatal risks. This came to light when nearly 93 per cent of fake Apple chargers were not having enough insulation to protect against electric shocks. The chief executive of Chartered Trading Standards Institute, Leon Livermore, has also urged buyers to purchase electrical goods only from trusted suppliers.
In addition to this report, Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, has also given a couple of note worthy points to take care of when purchasing an Apple charger or any other electrical good.
According to him, "Counterfeit electrical goods are likely to be poor quality and in the worst cases unsafe.” He has also added - "Look out for tell-tale signs of counterfeiting such as mistakes in brand names or logos, and check plugs for safety marks - all genuine electrical items made in the EU should have a CE mark on them."
