Russia Is Planning A Manned Lunar Mission In 2031

Will be the second country after the US to set foot on the Moon.

It has been decades since the last manned Lunar Apollo 17 mission took place. After Russia became the first nation to send a human in space, the US wanted to one-up the Soviets by landing on moon. In six successful missions a total of dozen American men were lucky enough to walk on Earth's natural satellite. After the end of cold war though, the space race mostly fizzled out. However, with a recent rise in the number of private players, the space exploration field is looking quite intriguing. While American billionaire Elon Musk has proposed an ambitious plan to colonise moon, Russia's space corporation Energiya wants to set foot on moon.

According to the Russian news agency Tass.com, Energiya's CEO Vladimir Solntsev said that his company will launch an unmanned flight in 2026. By 2027, Energiya will demonstrate its space module's take-off and landing capabilities in Moon’s orbit. He added that, "In 2029, there will be an unmanned flight of a new spacecraft to the Moon’s orbit. In the 2030s, we set the task of a manned flight to the Moon and in 2031 we plan landing on the Moon,"

Energiya's history dates back to 1946, which was known as Special Design Bureau number 1(SDB-1). Over the years, it has successfully carried out countless rocket and space projects. With so much experience, the company should not have any problem keeping up with the projected time-line.
