Samsung Unveils 8 GB RAM For Smartphones

The new 8 GB RAM can definitely take the smartphone technology way further, paving ways for ultra-powerful devices!

Samsung Electronics has recently unveiled the first ever 8 GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM, which according to the company is best suitable for devices with large screens and ultra HD, 4K and VR support.

Technically speaking, the new DRAM comes with four of the 16 Gb LPDDR4 memory chips, and is packed by the advanced 10-nanometer class process technology.

The company has made the announcement through its official blog, and Joo Sun Choi, Executive Vice President of Memory Sales and Marketing at Samsung Electronics has quoted, "The advent of our powerful 8GB mobile DRAM solution will enable more capable next-generation, flagship mobile devices around the world." He has also added, “We will continue to provide advanced memory solutions offering the highest values and leading-edge benefits to meet the escalating needs of devices having dual camera, 4K UHD and VR features.”

In the official blog post, the company also mentions that the new 8 GB LPDDR4 RAM operates at up to 4,266 megabits per second, which is pretty fast when compared to regular DDR4 DRAM that we normally see in PCs.

Also, the dimensions of the new 8 GB RAM being under 15 x 15 x 1.0 mm, this can definitely make space for more ultra slim smartphones in the near future.

However, though the company has announced the new 8 GB RAM, we are not sure how practically we can see it in the near future. The reason is, Samsung's 6 GB RAM that was produced in large in Sept 2015 has not yet arrived in the market (as on the time of this writing), and a place of 8 GB RAM? It may take next 2 years possibly, on a wild estimation.
