IFA 2016: Sony Announces Camera-Centric Xperia XZ And Xperia X Compact
Both the handsets boast of a 23-megapixel feature-packed camera.
There have been a lot of rumours regarding Sony leaving the smartphone space lately. However, by unveiling two smartphones at the IFA 2016, the Japanese technology giant has put rest to those whispers. The company has announced the Xperia X Compact and Xperia XZ (talk about awful naming scheme). Both these handsets take forward the omnibalance design philosophy with a few refinements.
As the name suggests, the Xperia X Compact sports a relatively smaller 4.6-inch screen. The HD LCD screen boasts of Sony's gimmicky Triluminos technology. The phone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 650 chipset. It has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. You can add another 256 GB of storage via a microSD card.
To please the shutterbugs, Sony has thrown-in a 23-megapixel camera with Exmor RS sensor. The company claims to use 'Predictive Hybrid AF' technology to track subjects in motion for blur-free shots. Sony has also implemented 5-axis stabilisation to record smooth videos. For selfies, there's a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
Other notable features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS (Assisted GPS) NFC, USB Type-C port, and 2700 mAh battery. The handset will sport a fingerprint sensor in select markets.
The Xperia XZ is more of a flagship material. Much like its predecessors, it is water and dust resistant. It has a 5.2-inch Full HD screen with Triluminos moniker. It packs in quite a punch with the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 820 chipset. The Xperia XZ comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. The storage can be expanded by up to 256 GB via microSD card.
Much like the Xperia X Compact, the XZ comes with a 23-megapixel rear camera with all the bells and whistles. What's more, it has got a whopping 13-megapixel front-facing camera. Rest of its features include a fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, NFC, USB Type-C port, and 2900 mAh battery. The phone also comes in a dual-SIM variant with 64 GB internal storage.
According to the Amazon UK listings, the X Compact is pegged at 379 pounds (approx Rs 34,000). The Xperia XZ will burn a 600 pounds hole in your pocket, which roughly translates to Rs 53,000. The shipping is expected to commence by the end of the month in the UK. However, there's no information on the global rollout.
