Pokemon Go Launches In Asia, China And India Still Waiting
While fans in other Asian countries are delighted, fans in India, China and South Korea are left disappointed in the delay of the official launch of the game.
Pokemon fans in India, China and South Korea are still wondering why the app has been launched in 15 countries over the weekend, neglecting the three huge markets for gaming. The app was launched on both iOS and Android platforms in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
The Pokemon Go Facebook post confirmed the launch. The post read, “Trainers in 15 new countries and regions across Asia and Oceania can now officially download Pokémon GO from the Play Store or App Store. Discover Pokémon in the world around you!”
Niantic CEO John Hanke had previously stated that the delay in launching in China is due to the regulatory laws governing the country while South Korea has imposed stringent regulations on Google Maps citing security issues over North Korea. Although the unofficial version of the game has been downloaded, the official app will feature new upgrades that will not be available in the previously downloaded versions.
The delay in launching in India has been attributed to the limited access by third-party services server overloads. Niantic has stated that, "We have limited access by third-party services which were interfering with our ability to maintain quality of service for our users and to bring Pokemon Go to users around the world. The large number of users has made the roll-out of Pokemon Go around the world an... interesting... challenge,"
