Getting A Blue Tick On Twitter Just Got Simpler
As of yesterday, anyone can get a verified ‘blue tick’ account.

Bringing verification to the plebeians, Twitter yesterday announced that it was introducing an online application process by which anyone can apply for a verification- and get a blue ‘check mark’ on their account. The check marks typically mean that the account is authentic- it was usually for noted names/organisation which were likely to be impersonated.
The company did let users apply for verification earlier , but scrapped the feature- probably because of vast numbers of fake applications. Since then verification has been manually conducted, at the company’s own discretion.
It looks like that this move is intended to help identify creators and influences that should be verified, whom Twitter hasn’t been able to find on their own. According to the VP of User Services, Tina Bhatnagar, the move is part of a larger push to help “people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience”.
Users will have to ensure that their account has a verified phone number and email address, bio, profile picture, birthday and website.
The company will also ask you to tell them why you think you should be verified, and could potentially ask for a government-issued ID to confirm your identity.
You can apply for verification here, or read more.
