Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), today rolled out of 4G services in Bangalore in the 1800 MHz spectrum band using FD LTE technology.
With this, Airtel 4G in the IT capital of India will now operate in dual spectrum bands of 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz. This will translate into enhanced 4G network capacity and a superior mobile broadband experience for customers through better network coverage and data speeds.
Airtel launched its 4G services in the city in 2012 in the 2300 Mhz band using the TD LTE standard. With today’s launch, Bangalore is among the first few cities in India to enjoy the power of an integrated 4G network using TD and FD carriers.
Airtel has led the proliferation of 4G services in India. Bangalore was one of the first few cities in India to experience 4G technology on Airtel’s network.
Commenting on the launch, C. Surendran, CEO – Karnataka, Bharti Airtel Limited said, “Today’s launch is a major milestone for Airtel in Bangalore. We gave the city its first 4G network and have received very good response from customers. Given the explosive growth of mobile data services and content consumed on mobiles, the addition of a second 4G carrier will surely add to the experience of the customers on our network. Airtel has also rolled out the widest 4G network in Karnataka with services now available in 130 towns. We remain committed to the digital vision of the state.”
To avail the complimentary 4G upgrade and to experience the state’s first integrated FD and TD 4G mobile internet speeds like never before – existing Airtel customers with 4G ready mobile devices can walk into their nearest Airtel Store and switch to a 4G SIM or visit www.airtel.in/4g for more information.
In November 2015, Airtel commenced the implementation of its network transformation program - Project Leap. With a national investment of INR 60,000 Crores over the next three years, Airtel’s “Project Leap” is a strategic company initiative aimed at perceptibly improving its network quality and delivering the best customer experience.
