Samsung GALAXY S III Announced

Features a 4.8" HD screen, quad-core CPU, and 8 MP camera.

After countless rumours and teasers, Samsung's latest flagship phone has finally been unveiled. As speculated earlier, the device is called the GALAXY S III, and will run Android 4.0 out of the box.

On paper, the Korean electronics giant's latest offering has lived up to its expectations. It's powered by nothing less than a quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos 4212 chipset. Gaming will be taken care of by the Mali 400MP GPU. The handset features a 4.8" Super AMOLED screen with pixel dimensions of 1280x720. Other specs include 1 GB RAM, 16 \ 32 \ 64 GB internal storage, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, micro-USB port with MHL and USB-OTG (On the Go) support, 3.5 mm jack, 2100 mAh battery, and a standard set of sensors. As opposed to rumours though, the phone sports an 8 MP camera instead of a 12 MP snapper with a zero shutter lag claim. For video chat, the handset features a 1.9 MP front facing camera. The phone measures 5.4" (l) x 2.8" (w) x 0.3" (9 mm) (d) mm, and tips the scales at 133 grammes.

The GALAXY SIII runs on Ice Cream Sandwich with a TouchWiz 4.0 UI flavour. The device offers S Voice feature that will probably take on Apple's Siri. According to Samsung, the handset will support wireless charging when paired with an optional accessory.

The smartphone will be available in Pebble Blue and Marble White, and is slated to release on 29th May in Europe, followed by that for the global markets. If you ask me, it should land in India by the end of June.
