Asus Zenfone Laser 2 ZE601KL: Big, But Usable
A bit heavier than it should be, but still a solid value smartphone

I like big phones, but I was still startled when I saw the sheer length and breadth of the Zenfone Laser 2 ZE601KL.
There are plenty of 6-inch phones, but if they happen to also be broad, they feel larger than ever. This one will fit in a bag, but will seriously stress a pocket; you can squeeze it into a clutch wallet, but you’ll struggle with the zip...
Despite the size, I was quite happy to use this device. I found it a little chunky and weighty, but because it's curved slightly on the back, it somehow isn't difficult to hold and thankfully isn't slippery either.
The Ferrari-red back (which could also be gold or silver) opens up to let you pop in two micro-SIMs and a memory card. The battery is a 3,000mAH and you can lift it out if you need to. It lasts the day pretty well, as a matter of fact, though I’d have thought one would need a bigger battery with this hunk of a phone.
The large screen is a full-HD one, and very nice looking. I set it to a low brightness so it wouldn't hit me smack in the eye and found it easy to use through the day. You can read a ton of material on it, including, quite comfortably, a book.
The other thing that was also great through the day is stable performance. I haven't yet crashed anything or caused it to hiccup. All is smooth. The handset's Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 works with 3GB of RAM and behaves like a champ. Asus' interface doesn't interfere with Android Lollipop too much.
That leaves the camera. It's the usual suspects: a 13 megapixel f2.0 aperture shooter with 5 megapixel front camera. And they behave like cameras tend to in low-to-mid-range phones -- good enough in outdoor light and a bit noisy in low light.
The Zenfone Laser 2 ZE601KL is available online for Rs 17,999. Not at all bad for what you get, though I’d have liked a better camera.
Look out for Christmas or new year deals if you're considering it. And the red is best.
