Oppo Announces R7s Smartphone With Mid-Range Hardware
While the specs do look promising, everyone is eager to know the R7s’ price tag.
At Gitex 2015 in Dubai, Oppo announced its next model in the R7 series, called the R7s. The smartphone is clearly a mid-range device with some impressive specs including 4 GB of RAM and a Full HD display all sandwiched into a premium-looking metal and glass construction.
The Oppo R7s adds to the lineage of the R7 Plus and the R7 Lite that were unveiled earlier this month at Rs 29,990 and Rs 17,990 respectively.
Coming to the R7s, the smartphone gets the 2.5 D glass treatment and comes with a uni-body design that utilizes air-craft grade metal to make it strong and light.
In the hardware department, there is not much that is different in here when compared to the bigger R7 Plus other than the 4 GB of RAM, which is very ASUS-like.
As for the hardware specifications of the Oppo R7s:
- We get a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with 2.5 D Gorilla Glass
- Inside, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 128 GB
- On the back we have have no fingerprint reader, but a 13 MP PDAF(phase detection auto focus) unit with an LED flash, while a 8 MP unit takes care of the selfies
- On the connectivity front, the phone supports 4G LTE bands and the usual Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi
- Powering all of the above is a 3070 mAh battery that works with Oppo’s VOOC charging feature delivering up to 2 hours or talk time with just 5 minutes of charging
The Oppo R7s will run the company’s custom OS called ColourOS 2.1 with Android 5.1 Lollipop underneath.
Considering that the price is not out, it is hard to suggest any comparisons, but Samsung’s Galaxy A8 sounds like a pretty good one, its just that the R7s does not sport a fingerprint reader. However, the R7s does pack in a lot more and that phase detection auto focus will find buyers. Oppo has not delivered the launch details for the smartphone in India just yet.
