The Watch Face Designs Shortlisted For The Moto 360 Smartwatch

Motorola is all set to make its entry into the world of wearables later today with its hotly awaited Moto 360 smartwatch. Set to be unveiled at the Google I/O, we don't know much about the device itself, but one among these 10 designs could be the official watch face of what is bound to be the best-looking smartwatch so far.

 

The company hosted a contest to see what sort of watch face designs people would come up with, and out of nearly 1,300 entries, these are the 10 finalists. The panel of judges comprised of Motorola's UX and UI designers and even design chief Jim Wicks.

 

The results are 10 absolutely stunning designs which range from analogue to futuristic and even racy. The winner of the contest would take home a Moto 360, while runner-ups would each receive a $50 Google Play gift cards for their troubles.

Layton Diament's "Vanishing Hour" watch face concept - As the minute hand makes its way around, the hour is dimmed while revealing the minute marks.Will Rodriguez's design concept shows the minutes through the larger dial, while the hour is shown through a disc in the foreground. Notifications are displayed at the centre.Aramis Negron's watch face concept is a minimal take on the overcrowded tech of today. The minutes are displayed as circling around the central hour counter.Jose Azua 'Angles' concept – The watch face has a compass like theme to it, with a central pointer indicating the minutes that gradually appear closer to the top.Pawel Hanusowski's concept uses a radio like readout for the month and date. The rest of the watch face features a traditional design with some smart red accents.Dave McCarthy has gone in for a minimal design, which is in keeping with the overall design of the Moto 360. Apart from the traditional watch face, only the time, date, and a battery indicator are seen on the screen.Jason Wang's concept is an analogue/digital hybrid design. The smaller arc on top represents the hour, and the larger arc below represents the minute.David Pascual 's design concept ties in a traditional watch face customisable notification widgets and provides status information of basic watch functions.Paul Stringer's design is clearly inspired by a speedometer, with the seconds, minutes and hour hands flying back when they've completed their cycles.Tyler Allicock's concept design again goes down the minimal route. While the time is indicated numerically in the bottom half, the upper half is dedicated to displaying seconds.
