23rd Jul 2015While announcing the third quarter results, Apple has shown a healthy growth in iPhone sales numbers and CEO Tim Cook also highlighted the growth in the Indian market as well.
Yes, you read that right; a growth in the Indian market which is just about 2 percent in size when compared to China.
The irony is that, while China is the mainland for cheap Android makers, iPhone sells like hot cakes in the country. However, for the first time, India had raced ahead of Greater China.
Don't get confused that the sales volume of iPhones was more in India than the China. But, for the Quarter April to June 2015, the sales in the Indian market grew by 93 percent when compared to that of the previous Quarters.
According to the numbers released by the company, the sales in India were up by 93 percent in April-June. While having a comparatively smaller user base to China, the growth in India is bigger than the 87 percent growth witnessed in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
However, when talking about volumes, China is a much bigger market with around 25 percent out of the 49.6 Billion revenue coming from sales in China. That is a whopping amount of 12.5 Billion in sales is from China.
It looks like a long way to go before it becomes a much larger market for Apple. But, for Apple, India is a growing market and they are adapting to the Indian culture and thought process. The recent Apple India advertisement which shows the marriage celebrations and the subtle tradition of Groom not seeing the bride before the wedding time show how Apple understand the Indian iPhone users.
Apple is also aiming to double the sales of a million iPhones by the end of October and keeping that in mind, the company has roped in new distributors including US-based Brightstar and Delhi-based Optiemus Group recently. It is also being said that Apple has an ambitious target of selling seven million iPhones in a year in India by 2018.
Finally, while India may not still by Apple's next China. But, it looks like Apple is doing phenomenally good in the Indian market amidst the outburst of the Chinese low-cost Android smartphones and the credit goes to the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It is also worth noting that huge volume of sales come from the iPhone 4s which apple is selling below Rs 15,000 in the Indian market.
