17th Jul 2015A few days ago Google hiring an SEO expert would have been considered a joke.
But this is true as the search giant is looking to improve its ranking in Google. Sounds confusing? It isn’t. Google a couple of days ago has posted an opening for Program Manager, Search Engine Optimizer in its Google Careers page.
Google is undertaking this hiring with an aim of improving its marketing and product pages to drive organic traffic to these pages.
“As a Program Manager for Technical SEO, you will work with cross-functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Engineering and more to help drive organic traffic and business growth. You will take part in website development and optimization, help shape blog and social strategy, improve website code hygiene and define web architecture for international websites,” it said in its career website.
Working in Google is a dream come true and chance to look at all that is happening behind the searches is what all SEO experts will dream of. So there might be plenty of interested people in it.
Why does Google need an SEO expert?
This will be the first question that people will ask. Does Google itself does not know what algorithm does? No it does.
Off late there have been increased concerns about the issue of Net Neutrality. The European regulators have pulled up Google for allegedly favouring its own websites ahead of the competitors while showing up search results.
A recent study where Yelp teamed up with Columbia University Professor Tim Wu, who coined phrase ‘net neutrality,’ found that Google does engage in predatory actions that hurt the users.
It was found that there were different “competitive results, as scored by Google’s own search engine, than results chosen by Google.”
So until now the Google was directing traffic to its own website and if the regulators decide that the search giant cannot do that, then it will have to find ways to do the same.
Now to drive traffic organically Google will have to work on the SEO of its own websites.
Whatever said and done the phrase, “Google need not hire a SEO expert” will no longer hold good.
