After declaring the best smartphone screen of the year, let's find out which phone impressed us with its performance. As a kid I used to assemble PCs. That's because, I could fit Mainboard and RAM better than Lego bricks. Back then, I could talk hardware configurations all day. Since most computers run Windows and OEMs don't generally customise the OS, it would not be wrong to assume that the performance is proportional to specifications. Mobile phones are a whole new ball game though. Not only that we have multiple popular platforms here, Android comes in various flavours. Due to OEM customisation, you find performance difference between smartphones running similar hardware. Software optimisation plays a big role in a phone's performance. Little wonder then, the dual-core  Moto G (Snapdragon processor) offers better performance than the octa-core powered Xiaomi redmi Note (MediaTek chip).

Stability is another factor where I think Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoCs (System on Chip) have an edge over MediaTek ones. You get to know these things only after using the handset. You cannot get such information from synthetic benchmarks. In fact, now that the manufacturers have started gaming the system, benchmarks such as AnTuTu have become quite pointless. So without falling for these inflated numbers, here are the smartphones that won us over with real-world performance:

Apple iPhone 6
LG G3 (2014)

In this list three contender run on Qualcomm's (Snapdragon) hardware. Despite packing in not-so new Snapdragon 800 chip, the Lumia 930 runs very fluid. Its gaming performance is outstanding too. The problem here is that there are not many high-end games available on Windows Phone platform. Apart from Gameloft, most game developers are still giving Microsoft's mobile OS a cold shoulder. All this power is useless if you hardly have anything to tap into it. So now we are down to the last three.

Android and iOS have no shortage of games. Based on the Snapdragon 801 SoC (System on Chip), both the LG G3 and HTC One shine when it comes to gaming. Their performance is almost identical. However, none of them come close to the iPhone 6's ability to render games. Be it Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8: Airborne, or Real Boxing, iPhone 6 runs them them smoother than any other handset out there in the market. Hands down, Apple's latest handset is the greatest in terms of performance.
