On September 9, Apple's long-anticipated iPhone was launched and for the first time the consumers around the world had the option of choosing amongst two new iPhone models - the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

The first major and most apparent difference between these two models is their size. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch display, whereas the 6 Plus is the biggest iPhone ever at 5.5 inches, which will be competing with other larger Android smartphones and gives Apple users more options.

Bigger Size, But Still Comparable to Some Androids

In terms of size and weight, the iPhone 6 can be compared to the Nexus 5, which is 5 inches. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, can more closely be compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which is 5.7 inches. 

Thanks to aluminium, the new iPhone models are very lightweight, so it really depends upon the size of your hands and what you prefer in terms of screen size when it comes to deciding between the 6 and 6 Plus. It may also depend upon what you are already accustomed to using, especially if you are transitioning from an Android phone.

Instead of the glass back found on previous iPhones, the latest models feature an aluminium body that comes in space grey, silver, and gold. Smooth curves and a thin frame are also apparent on the new models, and the famous little Apple logo found on the back of every iPhone will now be made of stainless steel. Overall, this should be a more durable body, which is particularly good news for clumsy users.

Other interesting design changes include moving the power button to the side of the phone, where it is easier to reach with your finger, rather than keeping it at the top.

Resolution and Display Size

Videos will be viewable in full HD on the 6 Plus, which will also have a 1920x1080 pixel resolution and 401 pixels for every inch of display. To put this in perspective, the Retina Display, which is known as the point at which the human eye does not recognize individual pixels anymore but rather sees a solid and clear image, displays 326 pixels per inch. This upgrade means the 6 Plus will definitely surprise many with just how vibrant the display is.

The iPhone 6, on the other hand, may be a little disappointing. Its resolution is at 1334 x 750, which is right on the mark for the Retina Display but still not an improvement from what users saw with the iPhone 4.

Aside from resolution, the 6 Plus has a contrast ratio of 1300:1, while the 6 has a contrast ration of 1400:1. Brightness ratings for both come in at 500 cd/m2.

No More Sapphire

The highly regarded sapphire display that many people were anticipating in the 6 and 6 Plus was not a part of the Apple's latest models. This came as quite a surprise, but Apple did say that the new phones would have what they referred to as ion-strengthened glass. .

Pricing and Options

Stores have iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on September 19. In terms of pricing, if you wish to buy one of these models from Apple, it is priced £539 for a 16GB iPhone 6 and £619 for the 16GB 6 Plus. The new phones can also be used with SIM-Only plans, which you can learn more about here.
