Xiaomi is all set to enter the Indian handset market. The company's claim to fame was its MIUI skin, which looked like a mash-up of the iOS and Samsung's ToucWiz. Later, in 2011, the Beijing-based brand started manufacturing phones. Currently, it is China's third-largest smartphone maker. In India, Xiaomi has partnered with Flipkart to sell its handsets. Out of its current line-up, the Mi 3 has created quite a buzz in India. Before it starts retailing on 22nd July, here's everything you need about this handset:

Firepower
Expected to launch in the next few days, the Xiaomi Mi 3 is going to be the most powerful budget handset in India. Yes, no other company offers a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset for Rs 14,000. That's the same chip you get in the Nexus 5 (Rs 28,000) and Xperia Z1 (Rs 33,000). If not anything else, the Mi 3 is at least going to be hell of a gaming device. Plus, there's 2 GB RAM to handle multitasking. What more can you you ask for Rs 14,000?


Display
The Mi 3 sports a 5-inch full HD IPS screen. According to the official product page, these panels are sourced from Sharp and LG. Those who love pixel-packed screens will be pleased to hear that this display has pixel density of 441 ppi. Plus, it's a super sensitive screen, which means that you can use it with gloves on.



Design
Despite the low-price, the Mi 3 looks nothing like your average Android phone. Xiaomi's phone features a sleek unibody design. That's quite similar to the Nokia Lumia 920. At 8.1 mm, it's slimmer than any of Nokia's current line-up. The phone comes in vibrant colours such as Blue, Magenta, and Yellow. Overall, the handset is quite different than those generic handsets from Indian brands such as Micromax, Karbonn, and Celkon. In fact, it stands out in the crowd.



Software
The Mi 3 runs Android Kitkat out-of-the-box. You get the company's signature MIUI software on top of that. Xiaomi's highly-modified Android comes with extensive customisation options where you can even choose your favourite font. Having used MIUI on several Android handsets, I can tell that it's much better than what most domestic manufacturers offer.

Camera
The Xiaomi 3 comes with a 13 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. According to the company, the camera assembly comprises of five element lens. You also get a 2 megapixel snapper, which should be good enough for selfies and video calling. Since we haven't tested it, we would reserve our comments on the image quality for review.

Battery
A pixel-packed screen and quad-core processor don't go light on the battery. Thankfully, Xiaomi knows this quite well. The Chinese manufacturer has crammed in a 3050 mAh Li-ion battery in this budget phone. In comparison, the similarly priced Moto G has 2070 mAh battery.

Other Features
The handset offers 16 GB onboard storage. Many will be disappointed by the lack of microSD card slot. In terms of connectivity, you get NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS (Assisted), Wi-Fi, and 3G. It has the essential set of sensors such as accelerometer, barometer, proximity, and gyro.
