The GALAXY S5, One (M8), and Xperia Z2 have hit the Indian market. These supersphones are every specs loving geek's dream come true. However, just a few days back, LG announced a super-charged G3 that stirred the competition once again. So let’s see how these Android flagships stack up.




Firepower
The Xperia Z2, GALAXY S5, LG G3, and HTC One (M8) are powered by the same Snapdragon 801 chipset. You get 2 GB memory in the GALAXY S5 and HTC One. The Xperia Z2 and G 3 go a step further by packing in 3 GB of RAM. However, in real world conditions, that doesn’t make much of a difference. So it all boils down to how well these companies have optimised their custom Android user interface.
 

Aesthetics
The metal-clad HTC M8 is undoubtedly the best looking device in this pack. The Sony Xperia Z2, with its aluminium-frame and clever use of panels, looks premium too. From the press images, it seems that LG’s G3 has also got a fancy touch thanks to the metallic film material. The only handset that looks out of the place here is the GALAXY S5. It's high time for a Samsung to deliver a fresh design.



Display
The HTC One (M8) sports a 5-inch Super LCD3 screen with 1080x1920 pixels. Sony has decided to go with an IPS panel. The 5-inch screen packs in 1080x1920 pixels. The Samsung GALAXY S5 flaunts a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display that produces vibrant colours and accurate blacks. It all sounds great, but if you’re a pixel junkie, you’re going to love LG’s G3. It packs in 1440x2560 pixels. In a 5.5-inch screen that translates to pixel density of around 530 ppi! Sounds great, but I doubt that you'll be able to tell a difference between the Quad-HD and Full HD screens.

Camera
Going by the numbers, the Xperia Z2 takes the top spot with its 20.7 megapixel camera. It’s followed by the GALAXY S5, which sports a 16 sensor. HTC One (M8) comes with an interesting dual-lens camera setup. The camera will use the second camera to calculate the depth of field. That sounds interesting, but what worries me is the paltry 4 megapixel camera. The LG G3 packs in a 13 megapixel camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser), which should do well low-light conditions. The Korean brand has added a laser focus system for quick focusing.

User Interface
Although all these handsets run Android 4.4 Kitkat, their user interface is nowhere similar. Out of the lot, HTC's Sense UI is aesthetically pleasing. Sony's UI interests us because of its elaborate theming options. The Korean compatriots, Samsung and LG have gone with a relatively flat design language. However, the clutter and clunky icons are still there.


 

Misc. Features
If you’re carless with your phone, you will appreciate the Xperia Z2. The phone adheres to IP58 (Ingress Protection) standards, which means that the Z2 can survive for half-an-hour under the pool. The GALAXY S5 too can withstand water and dust. HTC One (M8) isn’t officially waterproof, but a lot of users are claiming that the M8 can survive accidental spills and immersion. The S5 gets an edge with its finger scanning sensor and heart rate monitor. The LG G3 is low such fancy features, save for the in-built wireless (induction) charging tech.
