These days, brand is more than just a trademark. With ‘Consumerism’ taking over the wold, brands have managed to get swarms fans and followers. The report concludes that the big tech brands have harnessed the brain areas that have evolved to process religion. So let’s face it, fanboy or not, you tend to support certain brands. Apple

Known for the iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers, the American brand Apple is currently the most profitable tech company in the world. Located in Cupertino, this multi-billion dollar company had humble beginnings. It was founded on 1st of April by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976. The company's first computer Apple I personal computer was designed solely by the hardware and coding genius Wozniak. Then came the Apple II, Lisa (a landmark device in personal computer space), and Macintosh. Hard to believe, but Steve Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. The company went through turbulent times in early 90s. In 1997, Jobs was brought back to bring Apple on the road to profitability. With great response to new products including iMac and iPod, the company did come back strongly. In 2007, the Apple introduced the iPhone and the rest is history.

Known for its flagship product Windows operating system and Office productivity suite, Microsoft was set up by long-time friends Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975. The company's claim to fame was the PC operating system MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System). Later, it's GUI (Graphical User Interface) based Windows OS achieved phenomenal success in the market. As of 2014, over 90 percent computers in the world run Windows. According to Softpedia.com, Office suite is used by over a billion people across the world. Apart from these insanely popular products, Microsoft is known for Xbox gaming consoles, Windows Phone, Skype, Surface tablets, OneDrive (cloud service), and Bing (search engine). Late to the smartphone party, Microsoft, under Steve Ballmer's leadership, acquired Nokia's handset division to strengthen its devices business.

By the end of 1998, Google had an index of over 60 million web pages. Thanks to its clean layout and light footprint, this young search engine became an instant hit among users. With user base going through roofs, Google entered the Internet advertisement business and dominated it in no time. Sensing big opportunity in the smartphone market, Google acquired Android Inc. in 2005. Fast forward it today, and Android OS powers almost 80 percent smartphones on the planet.
